Birthdays can be private celebrations. On 28 July, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav chose a different path: he launched the Gomati Foundation - named in memory of his mother - as a living promise to Mormugao’s children and families.
Why a Foundation, Not Only a Ceremony
Panchayat work delivers roads, waste systems and citizen desks. A foundation can carry what the formal office sometimes cannot move as fast: scholarships that outlast a financial year, an ambulance that answers at midnight, and tree plantation that teaches children to plant in a mother’s name.

Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho inaugurated the Foundation in the presence of BJP Goa President Damu Naik, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, panch members, social workers and residents. Public platforms matter. What matters more is whether the next semester fees are paid and whether the ambulance reaches on time.
Three Pillars Announced on Day One
- Education - complete sponsorship for 10 students every year from economically weaker families.
- Healthcare - free emergency ambulance service for those who cannot afford private transport.
- Community seva - blood donation camp and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam plantation.
From Memory to Movement
Naming an institution after a mother is intimate. Making it work is public duty. The Gomati Foundation will be judged not by launch photographs, but by how many children cross Class X, how many emergencies find a vehicle, and how many neighbours choose to volunteer again next year.
